WHAT ABOUT DOMESTIC BACKFLOW PREVENTION?
In the Australian standards backflow scenarios are categorized as low, medium or high and depending on the situation, will depend on which backflow device you will need installed.
Houses are deemed a low risk and the water meter acts as a backflow device
But
Unit blocks, their garden taps, car wash bays and bin rooms have backflow devices installed and require annual testing and a compliance certificate issued to the Sydney Water Board.

Thermostatic mixing valves are installed in aged care facilities, hospitals, schools, medical centres, child care facilities and unit blocks for the reduction in hot water heat as to prevent scalding and 3rd degree hot water burns.
Hot water needs to be stored at 60*degrees and above to burn off legionella bacteria that likes to grow in mild temperature waters and in businesses and places of risk, hot water needs to be adjusted to degrees that are safe of between 40-45 degrees* as not to cause harm to vulnerable people.
HOW DOES A TMV WORK?
A thermostatic mixing valve draws the 60+ degree hot water and adds cold water to its mixing chamber and delivers it between a safe 40-45* degrees and these valves needed regular annual testing to make sure they are working as they should and comply with relevant regulatory authority requirements.
